More than 75 charred corpses were discovered tonight in a cemetery in the city of Deir Azzour. They including women and children and arer believed to have been executed by regime forces as they tried to flee the daily shelling in their city. Activists added that four more people were killed when a mortar shell hit their car in the neighbourhood of Jenayneh. Meanwhile, regime warplanes resumed pounding the city of Deir Azzour thus bringing the total death toll to 88 people including three women and three children.
At least 62 people including six women and two children were killed in Damascus and its suburbs, including 19 people that died due to the fierce and indiscriminate airstrikes that targeted the town of Saqba, while dozens more were also killed due to similar attacks on the towns of Hamouriya, Kafarbatna, Jesrin, Douma, Yalda and Ghazal. Regime forces also killed dozens of people in the towns of Balaliya, Ahmadiya, Deir Salman, Qasimiya and Kesweh. They also resumed their daily shelling in the southern neighbourhoods of Damascus using warplanes and military tanks.
In Idlib, regime warplanes fired cluster bombs into the rebels’ strongholds of Ma’arrat Noman, Salqin, Ram Hamda, Ma’ar Shorin, Kafrouma, al-Tah and Jabal Azzawiya leaving at least 25 people dead, seven of which fell in town of Ma’ar Shorin.
Aleppo was subjected to severe artillery and warplane shelling as regime snipers killed at least ten people in the neighbourhoods of Qadi Askar, Bustan Qaser, Marjeh and Meyasar as well as the provincial towns of Deir Hafer, Minbej, Kobani and Jarables.
Regime forces also resumed their massive military operations amid suffocating siege and indiscriminate attacks on residential areas in Homs, Daraa, Hama, Latakia, Raqa and Qunaitera leaving scores of people dead and many more wounded while destroying dozens of houses, thus prompting a mass exodus.
Regime forces executed seven army soldiers as they planned to flee their barrack in the 93rd brigade in the Raqa suburb of Ain Eisa.
On the other hand, rebel fighters stormed the neighbourhoods of Suleiman Halabi, Maidan and Sheikh Maqousd in Aleppo city as they continued to besiege the police academy in the provincial town of Khan Asal as well as the 46th brigade headquarters in the suburb of Atareb. They also seized control of two military checkpoints in the Homs suburb of Qusayr in addition to two police stations in the city of Boukamal near the border with Iraq. Moreover, they seized control of a military tanks base in the southern province of Quanitera.
The heavy battles between rebel fighters and regime forces left at least 34 army soldiers and more than 32 rebel fighters dead.
Economically, recent official data revealed that consumption of all petroleum products recorded a significant decline due to the severe shortage of these products in the market, hence making the year 2012 the worst in the history of Syrian oil industry in terms of the production and export of the crude oil. Consumption of gasoline, cooking gas and diesel fell by 18%, 28% and 22% respectively.
