Summary of
Events
Syrians took to the streets in masses demanding
serious steps by the international community towards providing arms to the
Syrian rebels instead of merely issuing daily condemnation statements on Assad’s
crimes.
At least seven Kurds were killed and dozens more injured in an
airstrike that targeted a bus in the Aleppo suburb of Afrin where the majority
of its residents are Kurds. Clashes between armed rebel groups and regime forces
were also reported in the Hasaka suburbs of Shadadi and Qamishly, marking an
escalation of violence in the Kurdish territories.
Rebel fighters shot
down a helicopter gunship loaded with missiles in the Saqba town in the eastern
Ghouta region of Damascus province; they also shot down a fighter jet in the
Deir Azzour suburb of Mohasan.
Meanwhile, Turkish army fired back at
military targets in Syria for a third day after a Syrian mortar shell fell in a
non-residential area in southern Turkish province of Hatay amid cross-border
clashes between rebel fighters and the Syrian army. The mortar shell fell in
Asagipulluyazi village of Yayladagi town in Hatay, 50 meters away from the
Syrian border.
Regime warplanes launched fierce aerial attacks on the
eastern Ghouta district and the towns of Zabdani, Hameh and Sayeda Zeinab in the
suburbs of Damascus, killing dozens of civilians and wounding many more, mostly
in the town of Saqba. Regime troops backed by military tanks and armoured
vehicles carried out sweeps, summary executions, looting and arson in the
Damascus suburbs of Qodsaya, Hameh and Qatana.
The Revolutionary Council
of the towns of Hameh and Qodsaya in outskirt of Damascus declared their towns
as “disaster areas” following the massive military offence by regime forces that
wreaked havoc on the towns and left them without water, electricity, food or
medication.
Hundreds of troops and Shabiha militiamen backed with more
than 50 military tanks and armoured vehicles stormed the Daraa suburb of Msefra,
executing 11 civilians including six family members, and burning down more than
110 houses after stealing their contents and arresting more than 60
civilians.
Heavy clashes continued throughout the city of Aleppo as rebel
forces thwarted an infiltration attempt to the neighbourhood of Sakhour by
regime forces supported by Iranian Revolutionary Guard and Lebanese Hezbollah
militias. Rebels also launched a barrage of mortars and locally-made missiles on
the Raid Branch and the Maidan police station. They also resumed attacks on the
Nerab military airport.
The regime’s heavy artillery and fighter jets
resumed shelling in the neighbourhoods of Sukari, Bustan Qaser, Aghyour, Sheikh
Kheder, Sakhour and the eastern neighbourhoods of Aleppo city as well as its
provincial towns of Indan, Tal Refaat and Hayan, leaving scores of civilians
dead and many more wounded.
Scores of civilians died and many more were
injured while dozens of houses were destroyed, thus prompting a mass exodus as
regime forces resumed their attacks on several areas in the provinces of Homs,
Daraa, Hama, Idlib, Raqa, Deir Azzour and Qunaitera.
Regime forces also
resumed demolishing residential houses and commercial establishments in the
neighbourhoods of Qadam, Qabun and Tadamon in Damascus.
The Syrian
Minister of Electricity Imad Khamis, said that the government will not exempt
residents of clashes areas from paying their electricity bills or any penalties.
The minister urged them to settle their overdue payments or else their supply
service will be terminated.
