The Syrian authorities sent short messages to the
mobile phones of the people of Daraa province reading “be a wise person and
drop down your weapon, the Syrian Arab Army is coming for you”,
activists said that the regime is trying to terrorize civilians by
waging a psychological war following the failure of its military solution in
quelling the 18-month revolution against it
UN-Arab League special peace
convoy to Syria Lakhdar Brahimi met with Bashar al-Assad in his palace in
Damascus today, Assad called for opening a dialogue with the opposition, while
Brahimi told reporters that great efforts will be made to end the conflict, but
the crisis now poses a threat to the entire region and the world.
Regime
forces summarily executed 20 civilians in the neighbourhood of Tadamon in
Damascus; they also murdered seven civilians in the neighbourhood of Qadam,
while six more were also murdered in the neighbourhood of Jobar and seven more
were executed in the provincial town of Yalda. Regime forces also murdered a
number of civilians in the neighbourhood of Qabun and the provincial towns of
Hejeira, Moadamiya, Qatana and al-Tal.
Clashes also renewed in the in the
neighbourhoods of Qadam, Asaly, Hajar Aswad, Yarmouk refugee camp in Damascus
amid heavy shelling that also targeted the provincial towns of Zabadani and
Douma. Regime forces also raided the neighbourhood of Nahar Aisha and the town
of al-Tal and carried out sweeps and arbitrary arrests and destroyed a number of
commercial establishments.
The rebel Free Syrian Army said that it
recaptured the neighbourhood of Saladin in Aleppo following fierce fighting with
regime forces. Fighting also broke out in the neighbourhoods of Saif Adola,
Maidan, Safahiya and Suleiman Halabi. Meanwhile, regime forces murdered seven
civilians in the neighbourhood of Sukari while scores of people were killed and
many were wounded due to the fierce and indiscriminate shelling by heavy
artillery and fighter jets that targeted residential buildings in the
neighbourhoods of Bustan Basha, Sakhour, Masaken Hanano, Haydariya, Qadi Askar,
Sukari in Aleppo as well as its provincial towns of Daret Ezza, Akhtrin, Deir
Hafer, Hardatnin, Retan, Hayan, al-Bab and Menbej.
The rebel Free Syrian
Army shelled the Abu Thohour military airport in the province of Idlib, while
the rebel fighters in Deir Azzour said that they shot down another helicopter
gunship.
Regime forces sustained heavy losses during clashes with rebel
fighters in the western neighbourhood of Qastal Harami in the city of Idlib and
in the Daraa suburb of Lajat as well as in the Hasaka suburb of
Shadadi.
Regime forces also continued their massive military offensive
throughout the country, killing dozens of civilians, wounding hundreds others
and forcing thousands of them to flee their homes. Regime forces fiercely
shelled the old city of Homs and its provincial towns of Houleh, Talkalakh,
Rastan, Qosayr and Krak Des Chevalier. They also shelled the Hama suburbs of
Sahl al-Ghab and Kafarnbouda besides arresting more than 45 civilians during
raids on several neighbourhoods in the city of Hama.
Regime forces
shelled the Daraa suburbs of Dael, Sheikh Meskin, Mzereib, Yadouda and the Lajat
district. They also resumed shelling the Idlib suburbs of Saraqeb, Ma’arrat
Noman, Taoum, Kourin and the Latakia suburbs of Rabea as well as the city of
Deir Azzour and its provincial town of Boukamal.
Civilians continue to
flee the escalating violence in the country where Jordanian officials said that
an average of 1000 Syrians cross to Jordan everyday.
